About Gau Poang Chinese Restaurant and reviews
Gau Poang Chinese Restaurant has been serving Peninsula customers for over 30 years. The restaurant started out on Burlingame Ave. for 26 years and moved to San Mateo in 2006. Owners Jerry and Judy Kuo wanted to provide their customers with high quality Mandarin and Schezuan cuisine, along with excellent service in a family friendly environment. Gau Poang means “good friend” in Chinese. Many of our friends frequent and call us by our first names, where others would call them “owners and customers”. Jerry and Judy had a goal in mind, their customers to know them by first name and be able to call Gau Poang home.

With so many Chinese restaurants to choose from in the area, this one would probably be on the bottom of my list. The food wasn't anything outstanding.

We have been going to Gau Poang for a couple of years now and they never disappoint. Try the pot stickers, Chinese chicken salad or the Mandarin chicken all are excellent. We will be back.

I have been coming to Gau Poang for over a year now and they never disappoint. Try the pot sticker and the Mandarin chicken - Yummy! We also enjoyed the pork fried rice and the Chinese chicken salad. We will be back again soon.

Remembered as a family favorite place when Gau Poang was in Burlingame. Happy to find it now in San Mateo. Our family shared mu shu pork and snow white chicken. Made just as I remembered. Great and friendly service. Super chinese food at reasonable prices....

This place is not worth visiting. We were a party of four. One of us summed it up "the best thing about this place is the tea". The service was good but the food was inedible. Another in our party declared it "the worst Chinese...

If this is supposed to be one of the better Chinese restaurants on the Peninsula forget about it. Pleasant enough ambiance. Good enough service. Mediocre food. Hot and Sour soup was black pepper hot instead of ginger and red pepper. There are those who don't...
